We often see whales, sea lions, birds, otters, deer and bears. Sightings are not guaranteed. The herring start showing up mid-March and so do the whales. Mid-March through April is an excellent time for whale watching. As the salmon start coming up the rivers in June, the bears come out to feed. June through September is a great time for a good chance at bear sightings. Almost anytime is a great time for taking in the sights of Sitka.
